Week 7: Supporting and Sustaining Well-Being

“This is why we practice meditation—so that we can treat ourselves more compassionately; improve our relationships with friends, family and community; live lives of great connection; and, even in the face of challenges, stay in touch with what we really care about so we can act in ways that are consistent with our values.”
Sharon Salzberg

We have spent several weeks paying close attention to the specific situations, thoughts, and emotions that put us at risk for lapses. In this session, we took a look at hte broader picture of our lives and identified those aspects that support a healthier, more vital life and those that put us at greater risk. Taking care of oneself and engaging in nourishing activities are essential parts of recovery.

Life Practice:

  1. Continue to practice using your own selections and intuition. Asking yourself, what would support my presence and recovery right now?

  2. For next week’s class feel free to bring something to share: A reflection, a poem or quote—that represents your experience of practice and/or the community. It is also fine to bring just yourself, as you’ve been doing for the whole program.
